Cadbury World!!!!!!

16th Jun 2021

This week, we were lucky enough to get the chance to visit Cadbury World, as part of our topic on Courageous Advocates and the Cadbury family. We have been learning lots about the history of Cadbury, such as the building of "the factory in a garden" in Bournville, or that Cadbury's were the first to make chocolate Easter eggs. We could not wait to see everything and find out more!

We were so excited to travel to Cadbury World. When we arrived, we saw the huge golden Cadbury World sign, as well as a colourful car decorated with chocolate wrappers. We then went inside and were given wristbands for the day. We explored the history of chocolate and cocoa beans, as well as how it travelled around the world. We got to see a replica of John Cadbury's original shop on Bull Street. We then watched John, Richard and George Cadbury tell us about how they came together and made chocolate.

Next, we went into a special cinema to find out about how chocolate gets made, from the cacao bean, to when milk is added, and how the final product was made. When we found out that cacao beans get shaken, we were also shaken in special moving seats! It was very exciting and we laughed a lot!

Afterwards, we saw an amazing demonstration of how chocolates are made, by pouring melted chocolate into a mold. We found out that it then needs to be tapped and shaken around to get out all the air bubbles. It then gets put into the fridge until it is solid, then tapped on the table again to get the chocolate out. The little squares looked and smelled delicious but we didn't get to taste them.

Then, we got a chance to write our names using warm, melted chocolate. It was really tricky to squeeze the bottles and write out our letters, but we really enjoyed having a go.

Next, we got to go on the Magic Bean Ride. It was a small, purple car that drove really slowly through a mystical chocolate world. We learned more about cocoa beans and how they travel. We also saw some different characters that we recognised from adverts! There was one part where we all glowed in the dark! We all really enjoyed the ride, even though it was a bit slow!

Afterwards, it was time for a delicious chocolate tasting! We got to choose two toppings to go into a little cup of melted chocolate - we could choose from jelly babies, white chocolate buttons, marshmallows, fudge or oreos. We all had the biggest smiles on our faces and were filled with joy!

We then got to see one of our favourite adverts - the gorilla who plays the drums! We loved singing along and pretending to play the drums with him! We also had a little dance to some of the other songs from different Cadbury adverts.

Finally it was time for lunch, where we sat in a big tent and talked about everything we had seen so far.

After lunch, we got to go into a magical 4D cinema. We weren't sure what was going to happen when we were given special glasses to wear, and the seats looked a bit strange. We were absolutely delighted and thrilled by the incredible film we saw, and our chairs moved and wobbled and wiggled so much it was like we were on a rollercoaster! We had so much fun!

It was almost time to go home, but first we saw the Bournville village exhibition, where we saw a tiny model village of Bournville and a collection of different toys and artefacts from the past.

Our last activity of the day was playing in the amazing playground, which had things to climb and a really tall slide.

The cherry on the top was getting to take home some chocolate treats from Cadbury.

We had such a special day out and we definitely all lived life in all its fullness!
