Autumn is here!

3rd Oct 2019

This week in Willow class we have been focusing on reading the story Chicken Licken, the new Autumn season and our counting skills.

On Monday the children went on an Autumn walk around the school grounds to see all the beautiful colours of the leaves and berries that had fallen off our trees. We collected leaves, conkers, feathers and acorns. We put half of what we had collected into our tuff tray with magnifying glasses so we could take a closer look at what we had found. The children enjoyed searching for bugs and found a little snail which we returned to its outside environment. It was lovely to hear the children using vocabulary such as crispy, crunchy, red, yellow, brown, green, soft and wet to describe the leaves.

The remaining half of the Autumn walk items were used to make Chicken Licken an Autumn hat to stop acorns dropping on his head!

The children also enjoyed singing the acorn number song and we used the acorns and conkers to do a counting activity focussing on more and fewer and matching numeral to quantity.
