Black History Month In Evergreen!
This month, in Evergreen class, we have been 'Living Life In All Its Fullness' by celebrating and reflecting on black history month. We have been reading the book 'Coming To England' by Floella Benjamin. This story explores what it means to be a British person with Black Caribbean heritage. During class discussions, we found that this story highlighted and celebrated many of our values including hope, kindness, courage and determination. We enjoyed learning about how it would feel to move far away from everything you know and also encouraged us to have dreams and aspirations which may one day come true just like Floellas.
In Evergreen Class, we were inspired by this story and enjoyed exploring a map to see how far Floella had travelled and discussing the similarities and differences between the two places. We also enjoyed sharing images of Floella's dream coming true and meeting the Queen and discussing the important impact she had helping us to remember the amazing work people did from the Windrush Generation.
