Black History Month in Maple Class

14th Nov 2023

During our history sessions we have started to look at the courageous advocate Rosa Parks. The children have been enraged to find out about the life of Rosa Parks and what happened to her throughout her life. The children learnt that as Rosa grew up life was different for her just because of the colour of her skin. She was made to use different entrances to buildings, toilets and seats on the bus. She did not have a choice, Maple class think this was extremely unfair. One day Rosa decided she had, had enough and said no when she was asked to give up her seat on the bus and Rosa ended up being arrested.

We have experienced 'Life in all it's Fullness' by acting out the scenes on the bus with Rosa being arrested. Although this time we changed it to people wearing jumpers or wearing stickers had to sit at the back of the bus. We did not like not being able to choose where we could sit. Maple class have also enjoyed hearing a story, watching a video and listening to a song all about Rosa's life. Finally we have created a time line to show specific events that took place in Rosa's life.
