Celebrating Aldersgate Day in Maple class
This afternoon we have been 'Living Life in all it's Fullness' by celebrating Aldersgate day.
First of all we thought back to yesterday's worship time where we started to learn about John Wesley. We found out that he was the creator of the Methodist church and the reason why we have our wonderful Holly Hill School.
We learnt that John travelled across the world spreading his messages. When John was sailing back to England there was a fierce storm and John was very frightened. He noticed that the other people on the ship didn’t seem frightened at all as they were singing to God. The people that John met on the ship invited him to visit them at their meeting in Aldersgate Street in London. He went to the meeting on 24th May 1738 and this is why we celebrate this special day. On this day John said his heart felt strangely warmed and we like to feel this too.
Next we then created some lovely crafts to remind us of John. These were creating bookmarks, a special heart that we could give to someone to let them know God is always with them, a colouring picture of John Wesley and decorating our school prayer, which were the words that John said.
We have had such a wonderful afternoon and we can't wait to learn more about John Wesley as we will be focusing on him as our Courageous Advocate for next term.
We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and come back to school ready for the Summer term.
