Celebrating Diwali

6th Nov 2019

This week we have been learning about Diwali and how it is an important celebration for Hindus and Sikhs. We talked about why Diwali is celebrated and what happens during this special time of year. We acted out the story of Rama and Sita. Everyone in the class had a part and did some fabulous acting.

We were very lucky to have a visitor to help us learn more about Diwali. Seren came all the way from London to help us learn more about the celebration and she taught us all a fabulous dance to tell the story. The children performed the dance to the teachers who were very impressed with the performance. Evergreen class did us proud in our whole school assembly as they were able to answer lots of questions about Diwali.

The celebration has given us the opportunity to show so many of our values. We showed joy as we joined in the celebrations. We showed respect and tolerance as for most of us, Diwali is a celebration from a different faith to our own yet we were happy to join in and learn about the celebration. We showed patience as we learnt our dance and we showed thankfulness as we remembered the different occasions that we celebrate and the goodness that these celebrations bring.
