This week in Nursery we have been focussing on oracy. Oracy is about developing children’s language and communication skills. These skills are really important for a child’s development in all areas of learning along with helping to build confidence and resilience.
For Nursery, this revolves around the oracy skills of active listening and cooperative behaviours such as taking turns, asking for permission, learning not to interrupt, and controlling the volume of their voice. Another great way we help to develop language skills is through reading and listening to stories and singing nursery rhymes. All of these activities will help to develop and extend the children’s vocabulary.
