History in Maple class - Black History month

10th Oct 2024

This term, we have started learning about our courageous advocate - Marcus Rashford. We have learnt all about his life growing up in Fallowfield, in Manchester, where his mother didn't have much money and often relied on a food bank. Following on from this, we looked at some maps of England, Birmingham and Manchester. We compared different ariel views and discussed which parts were similar to where we live in Frankley. Then we looked at his career in football and how he has been the victim of racism for some of the outcomes of those football matches. We have discussed how these people were not showing our Christian values and what we thought we would say to Marcus to make him feel better. After that, we have focused on his plight to ensure that nobody went hungry during Covid. We were so surprised to learn about things that happened during the pandemic, especially when we found out all the schools were closed and children had to complete their work online. Marcus worked hard with a charity to ensure everyone got food during this time and was awarded an MBE for his actions. This week we have been 'Living life in all it's Fullness' by drawing pictures of Marcus with his food trolley and wearing his mask so he didn't spread his germs. We have loved learning about Marcus and wonder who our new courageous advocate will be and what they will have done to change the world!
