Communication and Language is a very important area of learning in Reception. The children are developing their Speaking and Listening skills every day. We work hard to provide many opportunities within curriculum to develop their oracy. We always encourage our children to become confident readers and fluent writers. However, we also work hard to help them become a good speaker.
In R.E we have been exploring other religions and sharing different ways of life. We recently looked at what Ramadhan is. The children spoke about what they do during their religious festivities and we compared it to what people do in Ramadhan.
Sienna said “They have delicious food like me at Christmas. I have a special dinner and a pudding”. Olivia K expressed her understanding by commenting “They go to the mosque to pray and we go to the church. We went to the church and prayed to Jesus on our trip”. This shows the children are thinking carefully about the language they are using and tailoring it to subject.
