Nursery trip to Bishops Wood

11th Jul 2022

Nursery showed life in all its fullness this week as we went on an exciting trip to Bishops Wood Activity Centre. Before we left nursery we used the internet to find out how to get to Bishops Wood, what the weather was going to be like and what Bishop Wood looked like. We also talked about how we were going to keep ourselves safe on our trip.  The children knew that they needed to follow instructions from an adult, sit down on the coach with their seat belt on and stay with their group whilst at the centre.

Once we arrived the children sat and listened to a story from Stephen our guide and he told them what we were going to do and how to keep safe through the day. We then went into the woods where the story of the three little pigs was acted out with puppets and the children made each of the three little pigs’ houses.  The children were told how to safely transport the materials to make their house, all children managed this. The children enjoyed exploring the materials and experimenting with them to see how they could build their houses and keep the little pigs safe from the wolf!

After a picnic lunch the children went back into the woods where there were puppets and props from traditional tales such as ‘The Gingerbread Man’ ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ and ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. The children used this time to act out the stories, explore the woods and look for bugs. Some children also created a mud kitchen pretending to make ice cream in the forest.

The children had a wonderful day and were very tired and happy on the way back to nursery.
