Our School Church

9th Oct 2019

In our RE sessions we are talking about our School Church, thinking about what it looks like and what happens there. Last week the children went into the hall and looked at our church area and the alter. We looked at and talked about what we found there and some of the children shared their own experiences of going to church with their families. The children enjoyed looking at the cross, the special cloth and the candles. The special cloth was very interesting for the children as it had images sewn in it.

This week we talked about the cross in our own prayer area and how this shows we are thinking of God. We decided to make a new cross for our classroom using our hand prints. We started by thinking about what we use our hands for and then went on to think of the different ways we can use our hands to be kind and helpful. The children then got to paint their hands, which they really enjoyed. One of our children was very brave as he was not sure at first but with some support he was able to overcome this and together we painted his hand as it was important that his hand prints were included.
