Pancake Races in Year 2!

This week in Year 2 we have been 'Living Life in All Its Fullness' learning about Lent and Shrove Tuesday. We have discovered that many Christians will give up something they enjoy during the 40 days which lead up to Lent. We felt that it would be very difficult to do this but understood that many Christians will keep their Lenten promises until Easter Sunday. We also discovered that the colour purple is important to Christians during Easter time. Many churches will cover the alter with purple cloth which symbolises royalty and that Jesus is King.
We also explored Shrove Tuesday and the many different traditions which are celebrated throughout the United Kingdom. We took part in pancake day races and then made some delicious pancakes ourselves which we got to taste! They smelled so delicious that Year 1 wanted to know how to make them, so we wrote some instructions for them to follow.
