Ping Ting Chen visited to teach us about Chinese New Year

13th Feb 2018

We showed our value of Respect by listening carefully so that we could learn more about how Chinese people all over the world celebrate Chinese New Year.

We learned that Chinese people celebrate Chinese New Year because many years ago people in a village scared away the monster Nian using fire crackers.

There are celebrations with music, dancing and fire crackers.

People get together to celebrate and eat delicious food.

They decorate their houses with red couplets.

The children receive red envelopes from their family. The envelopes have money in them.

We learned that in the Chinese Zodiac there are 12 animals. 2018 will be the year of the Dog.

We learned how to say "Ni Hao" (Hello) and "Xin Nian Kuai Le" (Happy Chinese New Year).
