Reading

20th May 2021

We all love reading in Maple Class. Lots of us read with an adult every single day, and we all get the chance to read at least once a week.

It is a wonderful experience to share delight in books. We are always excited to explore new stories and share our favourites as often as we can!

This week in English, we have been exploring a new text, Croc and Bird, which is pulling together so much of our English and Science knowledge as we consider new vocabulary and discuss synonyms for unfamiliar words.

Our Big Book this week is called "In The Middle of the Night", which is about some (not very secret) secret agents. We have loved showing each other how we would be a better secret agent than the ones in the story! Last week we explored some different poetry and thought carefully about what made the poems interesting or not.

Each Thursday afternoon, we get to go to the library in school and choose a new book to take home every week. It has been fantastic to hear what new stories we find and enjoy, and even exploring the ones we don't like!

Our class book for summer term is Roald Dahl's Matilda, which we absolutely love! We have been amazing at identifying our school values (or lack thereof!) in characters in the text.

We look forward to reading with our grown ups at home as often as we can, so we can keep developing our love for reading with a wide range of books!
