Remarkable Reading!

21st Nov 2024

This week, in Cedar Class, Miss Sharif and Mrs Hood have been working on developing oracy and reading skills. We have provided a rich provision to encourage the children to have a love for reading through a wide variety of activities. The activities focused on sound recognition, segmenting and blending. Our focus book this week is ‘When I Grow Up’. This book focuses on jobs, which also links to our learning in Understanding the World.

When looking at the oracy framework we know that the cognitive and linguistic strands are important for reading comprehension. This week the children have used their oracy/reading skills to talk about what they would like to be when they grow up. We provided them with sentence stems to support them. Tyan said "I want to be a policeman to keep everyone safe". Na'kairo said "I want to be a teacher like you because you help us". Hollie said "I want to be a vet because I love animals".
