Remembering in Maple

7th Nov 2024

Today we have been 'Living Life in all it's Fullness' by remembering the fallen. We discussed the significance of remembrance day and learnt all about why poppies are a symbol for the day. Together we came up with this prayer that we beautifully said in assembly this morning.

Dear God,

Thank you for the soldiers who were brave and tried their best.

Thank you for the soldiers who were able to give us a good life.

Thank you for sending the poppies so we can remember the soldiers who died.

Help us to remember the soldiers who did not come home.

Amen.

We also found out that Miss Lewis' brother used to be in the army. He was an army cadet and then at the age of 16 joined the regular army. He was part of the Household Cavalry and as well as having to perform ceremonial duties, he learnt how to ride a horse and how to prepare for battle. Miss Lewis told us how he had to fight in a war but she was very lucky that he got to come home. We talked about how some families would have been feeling if their relative did not come home from war. Miss Lewis' proudest moment was when he was part of the parade of Prince William and Princess Kate's wedding. She went up to London to watch him on his horse. In the picture he is behind Prince William with the shiny helmet on. We loved looking at all of these pictures.
