Supersonic Phonics!

17th Jan 2024

The children are living life in all its fullness flying through their Supersonic Phonics journey. We have now covered Basics 2, so the children know: s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k,  ck, e, u, r , h, b, f, ff, l, ll and ss. As part of their literacy skills we are working on hearing up to 3 sounds in words, recognising spellings and reading and writing simple CVC words. As we progress onto Basics 3 the children will learn more digraphs and trigraphs. The sounds included in Basics 3 are: j, v, w, x, y, z, zz, qu. The digraphs/trigraphs are : ch, sh, th, ng, ai, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar, or, ur, ow, oi, ear, air, ure, er. The children have now also been introduced to tricky words. These are words which cannot be blended using known sounds for example is, was, the or she. The children are doing fantastic at learning and remembering the tricky words from Basics 2. We encourage you to practice the following tricky words with them: I, the, no, go, into, is, was, she, he.

Please find the tricky word mat attached below for all the tricky words we are learning.
