Sustainability in Evergreen!

1st May 2025

This week in Evergreen Class we have been 'Living Life In All It's Fullness' by taking part in sustainability week. We have been very busy learning about the importance of sustainability. We have had a class election to nominate two class Eco Warriors. They will have important roles such as turning off lights to save energy, making sure taps are turned off to save water and ensuring that we all remember to recycle paper and food waste. We presented our speeches and voted for our class Eco Warriors.
Each afternoon, we have been taking part in exciting activities to help support our understanding of why we should be sustainable. We have made smores in our own solar ovens to show how we can reduce the use of electricity and fossil fuels. We made a whole class pledge with promises to make a change, such as walking more, planting to attract insects, and using less plastic. We have also had an exciting addition to Evergreen class with our ladybirds. They are at the moment tiny pupa, which we are looking forward to seeing how they grow. As part of Holly Hills' sustainability pledge, we have a patch of garden that we will be planting our own fruit and vegetables in. To encourage minibeasts to our garden, we have also made bug hotels.
