In the EYFS, science is covered within Understanding of the World (UW). It is one of the specific areas of learning that supports children's learning and development with regard to their understanding of the world around them. As we near the end of Summer 1, we are ensuring that the children have learning opportunities that enable them to get the Early Learning Goal. One of the areas of UW that we have focused on this term is 'The Natural World'. We have enabled the children to explore the natural world around them. They have been planting, looking after flowers and recycling. They have also been gaining an understanding of important processes and changes in the natural world around them, including the seasons and changing states of matter.
