At Holly Hill, we promote a love for reading. We want the children to enjoy reading, as it has a significant influence on their views and feelings about reading as they get older. It is important for children to develop a love of early reading so they can learn the necessary skills to become successful readers. Currently, the children are creating and understanding meaning from pictures, symbols, words and print. We are supporting them to develop their reading through their talk, internal speech, symbolic play and early writing. We follow the Supersonic Phonics scheme that allows reading to be taught in a fun and active way.
Please read with your child at home and fill out their diary, so they can get a bead to put into our class jar. Once the jar is full, the children can choose a prize for charity.
We have been immersed in wonderful books today! The children have enjoyed dressing up for World Book Day. They were very excited to share and see the books their friends had bought in. We have had lots of great discussions about the characters in each story.
