Year One's trip to the Buddhist Pagoda and St John's & St Peter's Church

18th Jan 2024

Wow, what a wonderful day Year One have had on our trip. we really have been 'Living life in all it's Fullness.'

First we went on the coach to the Buddhist Pagoda. We were very respectful and took our shoes off before we went in. Then we listened to Dr Max who told us all about what it was like to be a Buddhist and what Monks do. We learnt that they wear special robes, shave their heads, eat only two meals a day one in the early morning when they wake up around 5am and then one at lunchtime, meditate and pray. Next we looked at some of the artefacts around the Pagoda and then we drew pictures of the artefacts we could see.

Then it was time to say goodbye, get back on the coach and travel to our next destination of the church.

When we arrived at the church the bells were ringing, telling us it was time to go in. We talked to Reverend Jo and Jennie all about the church and the Bible. There were some lovely volunteers from the church congregation who also helped us. After that we looked at the alter, the pews, the font and the pulpit. We learnt about the Bible originally being written on a scroll, then we made our own scroll. We sang songs and pretended we were the church choir. When we looked at the font, Miss Lewis was baptised again and Brooke and Gladson were her Godmother and Godfather, this was a very special time. After that, some of us got to light a candle and say what were we lighting our candle for.

Finally it was time to head back to school, some of us even had a little catnap on the way back.

What an exciting and busy day we have had.
