Mark Making in Nursery.

19th Sep 2024

Mark making refers to the various ways children create marks, lines, patterns, and shapes on different surfaces. It starts with simple scribbles and gradually evolves into more recognisable drawings and letters. This can be done with pencils, crayons, paintbrushes, sticks in the sand, or even fingers in mud! Not only this but developing children’s gross and fine motor skills also plays an essential role in developing children’s early writing. Gross motor skills involve large muscle groups and help with movements such as sitting, standing, walking, and running. Fine motor skills involve the coordination of small muscles, typically in the hands and fingers. These skills enable children to hold a pencil, control their movements, and form letters.

The children this week have been busy doing lots of mark making drawing self portraits and pictures of their families. Other activities include playing with playdough and developing their scissor skills. The PE coach got the children do develop their gross motor and coordination with throwing and catching.
