This week we have been looking at the Life Cycle of a Butterfly otherwise known as Metamorphis. In Nursery this comes under ‘The World’ strand of the EYFS framework. We have been encouraging the children to watch the caterpillars grow, so they can start asking questions about the natural world. This has encouraged them to talk about some of the things they have observed such as “What do they eat?” and “How big do they grow?”.
Our weekly value is Kindness so we have also linked this to teach the children about showing care for living things and the environment. This has worked really well as they are starting to look for ladybirds in the garden area so they can gently hold them.
