Wonderful Writing in Fir!
We write every single day in Year One!
For the last few weeks, we have been looking at a story called Journey by Aaron Becker. It follows a little girl who has no one to play with. When she finds a magic red crayon, she goes on an adventure to a beautiful forest, she sails to a huge castle and flies in a hot air balloon to rescue a mystical purple bird. When she is trapped by the people who captured the bird, the bird comes back to rescue her and she flies home on a magic carpet. When she gets home, she meets a boy with a purple magic crayon and they become friends.
We have loved following this story and finding out more about the amazing world the girl is in. We have been writing lots of descriptive sentences and using our senses to describe what we can see and hear. We have been thinking lots about how different characters might be feeling and what could happen next.
In our writing, we have lots and lots of things to think about! We have to make sure to have capital letters at the start of our sentences, as well for names of people or places. We have to have full stops or question marks at the end of our sentences. We have to use our phonics to listen for the sounds in our writing, we have to make sure we use finger spaces between our words, our letters need to be on the line and formed in the right direction and be the correct size! If that wasn't enough, we also need to make our writing interesting with adjectives, noun phrases and conjunctions! We know what our targets are because there are special symbols on our work to remind us!
We work really hard when we are writing, and we love opportunities to show off new words we have learned - ask us for a different word for happy, sad, angry, red, blue, or green!
Take a look at us 'Living Life in all its Fullness' through our writing from this week - both in our books and during phonics!
